"This place is a message… and part of a system of messages… pay attention to it!
Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture.
This place is not a place of honor…no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here… nothing valued is here.
What is here is dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.
The danger is in a particular location… it increases toward a center… the center of danger is here… of a particular size and shape, and below us.
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours.
The danger is to the body, and it can kill.
The form of the danger is an emanation of energy.
The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited."
Is that from some fantastic, creepy sci-fi story? No! It's from real life. Seriously. Of course, it could be used for a good sci-fi story...
Totally unrelated, but sometimes, I feel like a foreigner speaking English. I'll be about to type a word, and then I wonder, is that the word which means what I think it means? And then I have to look it up, as if I'm not speaking the language I was born speaking. It's like when I know what a multiplication problem is but then I do it on my calculator anyway, in case I got it wrong in my head. Actually, it isn't so much like that, but I've got math on the brain because I am doing so badly this year. My quiz grades are a 76, a 70, and an 80. ): And I got an 87 on my first history test. Mediocrity suddenly is sticking to me like glue.
